The re-distribution of action from the realm of human beings to things signals the demise of man as the free-standing intentional agent envisioned by modernist thinkers. The crossed-out Man joins the crossed-out God by being denied the free and uninhibited invasion of the material world in the creation of the social world. However, unlike the transcendence of Man over God through which the human being became permenantly distanced from the material world the transcendence of Nature spells out the incorporation of all entities under the banner of Nature, whether animal, material, or human.

This connects up with Katherine Hayles thesis in How we became posthuman: Virtual bodies in cybernetics, literature, and informatics (1999).
