Sir Thomas, Earl of Lancaster was the original builder of the castle at Dunstanbugh. He began major construction of it in 1313. Though the castle was supposedly built to help keep out the maurading scots, it was very unlikely that this was its true purpose as Dunstanburgh is well off the normal invasion routes. Instead it has been supposed that the castle was not intended to be a defensive building, but rather a symbol of the Earl's enormous wealth and power.

The Hauntings of Sir Thomas's ghosts are still talked about till this day, and many visitors report supernatural sightings.

How does King Arthur connect to the Earl? Find out here!
