King Arthur > The Legendary Arthur
Arthur Pendragon, son of Uther and Igraine, wife to Guenevere, half-brother to Morgan le Fay, king to the knights of the Round Table, provider of a Golden Age to his land...
When he flourished, his country flourished - military prowess, plentiful food, fertile families and land...
When he passed on, his country withered and died, transforming into a barren wasteland to mourn his passing.
Arthur is not alone in his stories, though. Many other characters come into play:
- Merlin, his mentor and mage
- Guenevere, his beloved, beautiful wife
- Lancelot, his strongest and cleverest knight, who eventually stole his wife
- Mordred, possibly his child by his half-sister, the man who brought Camelot to its knees
- Morgan le Fay, his half-sister and wise woman, who is often treated as an evil witch
- Taliesin, his favorite bard and storyteller
- Gawain, a seeker of the famous Grail
- Galahad, another knight of the Round Table
- Parsifal, the pure-hearted seeker of the Grail
And those characters all inhabit a vast landscape which is filled with landmarks and castles:
- Tintagel, Arthur's birthplace
- Camelot, the famous home for Arthur's court
- Bamburgh, Lancelot's castle
- Avalon/Glastonbury, home to Morgan le Fay and Arthur's final resting place
- Dunstanburgh, the ghost-ridden castle stumbled upon by Sir Guy in his quest for the Grail
Each of these is just a beginning. Each has countless connections and interactions with the others; to trace them all would take an eternity...
Many of their stories are documented in lush illuminated manuscripts, inspired by the beautiful Lindisfarne Gospels...
But most of all, these stories are meant to be transmitted from one person to the next -- around a table, during a voyage, in performance or in literature or in art -- a story will resonate with one person, who then passes it on to another and another -- and thus the stories cross generations and enthrall all ages.
