The most famous of wizards is Merlin, King Arthur's teacher and guide. Some say he lived in a cave by the sea, near to the tower of Tintagel. Others say he resided in a dark forest, living amongst the trees and communing with the animals there.
It is believed that Merlin was a shape-shifter, able to wear the guise of any animal he chose. Indeed, he was so powerful that many people think he was the architect of Stonehenge.
Another acheivement with which Merlin is often credited is the construction of the famous Round Table. This table was Guenevere's dowry in her marriage to Arthur and seated all of Arthur's knights at Camelot. It was symbolic of the knights' equality and the king's fairness to all his subjects.
