The bucket is 4 feet high, 3 feet in diameter, and hollow at the bottom like a cookie cutter, with graphite steel teeth around the bottom edge.

The bucket spins around and drills into the landfill. Then, its "clamshell" sides collapse in on the refuse and bring it to the surface. Two to three feet at a time, a Bucket Auger can drill to a depth of just about 100 feet.
