A few weeks ago I made my first radio feature for the BBC... it aired tonight and is online here...

"Glob Girls" was the end of a quest which started when I read PV Glob's book, "The Bog People", 13 years ago, and became fascinated by his preface, and the book's dedication to a class of English convent schoolgirls. They had written to Glob in the 1950s asking for more information on the Tollund Man, a find in the boglands of Jutland, which featured in newspapers all over the world. Glob not only responded to their interest...the wrote his reply as a book dedicated to the girls and to his daughter Elisabet, who was about their age at the time.

For the feature I interviewed two of the Glob Girls - they had not met for 40 years - and their teacher Sister Simon, and captured their responses to the same Larsen images which I included in a DVD, "Strange Powers". I made this DVD largely as a result of my own response to Lennart Larsen's wonderful photographs of the Tollund Man and other bog bodies. Not least, the poet Seamus Heaney was inspired by those images to write a series of poems, and he is featured in the programme, reciting the Tollund Man. I discuss more of this in "Past Poetic" (2004) . Meanwhile, I continue to work with this extraordinary bog material, and the phenomenon it produced.
