In which I will credit those who've given me assistance in the ongoing development of the project.
Bloggers and Other Online Persons
Ray Girvan gave me numerous pieces of assistance. He:
- directed me to Ebenezer Elliott's poem, Love (see Ebenezer Elliott, the Corn-law Rhymer)
- directed me to Ronald Wright's 1997 literary novel A Scientific Romance (quoted in "Perfume of Garbage")
- directed me to Poe's story "Mellonta Tauta"
- reminded me of the ruined Sydney, in the closing minutes of Mad Max III: Beyond Thunderdome (still my favourite Mad Max flick, incidentally)
- was also the first person to email me regarding the original WLS website (and a very nice email it was, too)
Johnna Klukas first directed me to the Old English poem,
The Ruin, which might be about the Roman town of Aquae Sulis (Bath). She also pointed me to
Fantasy Architecture, 1500-2036: a catalogue of never completed buildings. Although not obviously directly linked to the topic of "Contemporary City as Ruin", it does remind me of the theme of failed hopes/ expectations that I touch on in
Ruins Ruminations.
Academics
Michael Shanks must receive credit (or blame?) for providing the course which gave me the inspiration for this project. And, also, for involving me in the production of the Perfume of Garbage article.
Bill Rathje has also been a tremendous source of support and inspiration with regards to the analysis of modern the archaeology of tomorrow. And, also, I need to thank him for involving me in the production of the Perfume of Garbage article.
