Erica Simmons:

I am a senior double-majoring in Archaeology and Geological and Environmental Sciences. I love both subjects. My parents make fun of me for majoring in "going to cool places." Most of my archaeological field experience has been in the Presidio de San Francisco, where I spent two summers. My honors thesis is a geoarchaeological analysis of adobe from two different buildings within the Presidio, in which I am making thin sections of adobe fragments and analyzing their mineralogical contents under a petrographic microscope. Hopefully, this will provide information about adobe production within the Presidio.

My other interests include photography, science fiction, and music. I play the clarinet, and last year I learned to play the shawm, a renaissance precurser to the oboe. I sound awful.

For this class, I want to explore nighttime photography. I have always been fascinated by the different feels places have at night and the amazing effects small amounts of light can have in the darkness. I realize that taking pictures in low light is a challenge, but I'm excited to give it a try!
