The cameraThese photos were taken the night after A Series of Miris with the same Polaroid medium format camera. These are the only pictures for this project that I took in color. The film has a funny color balance, so all of the pictures came out in various shades of pink. As with issues of exposure, color balance is another technical aspect of how we construct and relate to images in particular ways. I like the pinkness of these pictures, but it does not represent what the scene looked like to us at the time.
For these pictures, I was able to use a light meter, but its suggested exposure times were too low. This is because of reciprocity failure, which is a phenomenon that varies by film types. Because of this, I still had to do a lot of trial and error. But the Polaroid camera significantly changed my mode of engagement, because with it I could get relatively instant feedback and retry until I got the result I wanted. In contrast to the Night Picnic photos, I was able to evaluate my results as I took the pictures.
