Jarvik-7: Redefining the Human Heart
Welcome! This project is an exploration of the Jarvik-7, the first artificial heart that was successfully implanted into a human in 1982. As a Biomechanical Engineering major chugging through the premed grind, this topic came to me easily since I constantly hear about this type of medical technology. In fact, this is the "stuff" that excites me the most about my field- artificial organs & tissue engineering. I would love to work on growing bones and hearts in jars, so it's especially relevant for me to explore important landmarks in bioengineering history and what they reflect about human nature.
Now as for you, I know it might seem a little more difficult to forge a connection between yourself and the Jarvik-7, this unfamiliar historical artifact that I seem to have conjured up out of nowhere. But with a little bit of exploration, you'll hopefully discover some interesting finds :).
